The CYWater 2023 Young Scientist Best Paper Award goes to Laibao Liu, for “Increasingly negative tropical water–interannual CO₂ growth rate coupling,” published in Nature. Selected from 33 applications, Laibao receives a CYWater Award certificate and a $200 cash prize.
The Committee also recognizes two Outstanding Papers:
- Wei Zhi — “Widespread deoxygenation in warming rivers,” Nature Climate Change.
- Zexi Shen — “Oceanic climate changes threaten the sustainability of Asia's water tower,” Nature.
Award ceremony
The ceremony was held in person during the AGU Fall Meeting, marking the return to an on-site format after three years of online ceremonies (2020–2022).
