The CYWater 2021 Young Scientist Best Paper Award goes to Maofeng Liu, for “Enhanced hydrological cycle increases ocean heat uptake and moderates transient climate change,” published in Nature Climate Change. Selected from 32 applications, Maofeng receives a CYWater Award certificate and a $200 cash prize.

The Committee also recognizes two Outstanding Papers:

  • Zhiping Ai — “Global bioenergy with carbon capture and storage potential is largely constrained by sustainable irrigation,” Nature Sustainability.
  • Xiaogang He — “Climate-informed hydrologic modeling and policy topology to guide managed aquifer recharge,” Science Advances.

Award ceremony

Held online via Zoom on December 19, 2021, 9:00–10:30 am (Beijing), with all three recognized authors presenting their work and taking questions.
